Child's Practice Chanters

On this page we display the practice chanters that we offer for sale. The first section lists standard chanters, and the second section lists long chanters. The child's chanters are at the bottom of the page.

I. Standard Chanters

The CH10 to CH12 practice chanters are our budget models.
The CH13 to CH14 are recommended for serious students.
The CH15 to CH16 are our high-quality blackwood chanters.

CH10. Black glass-filled nylon chanter, shown at left. Button sole. $28. This is the same chanter that is in the CH1 and CH5 sets.

CH11. Rosewood, engraved nickel trim and sole. $22. This is the same chanter that is offered in the CH1 set.

CH12. Cocus wood, engraved nickel trim and sole. $25

The high-density black plastic practice chanters below are the most widely used style of chanter in this country; pipe teachers routinely recommend them.

CH13. Kintail brand practice chanter. High-density black plastic, button sole, made in Scotland by Sharp.  Countersunk holes. Length: 18 1/2".  Kintail is one of the best-known brands $70 Out of stock.

CH14.  Blackwood chanter with mock ivory and engraved nickel fittings. Matte finish. This is a good deal for a real blackwood chanter. 22 1/4" long, made by Mid-East. With Scottish reed. $85

II. Long chanters

The CH30 to CH32 are our budget models.
 

CH30. Rosewood long chanter with metal sole, looks like the CH11 above. $39

CH31. Cocus wood, mock ivory band and sole $37.

CH32. Black glass-filled nylon, made in Scotland.  This chanter is made by Bagpipes Galore! who make the practice pipes; this is the same chanter made by taking off the chanter and blowpipe of the practice pipes. $50

Black High-Density Plastic Chanter

The high-density black plastic practice chanter below is the most widely used style of chanter in this country; pipe teachers routinely recommend them.

CH33. Kintail practice chanter. High-density black plastic, button sole, made in Scotland by Sharp.  Countersunk holes. Length: 21". Our customers tell us that this is the best practice chanter they've had for sound and playability. Inscribed "Kintail Made in Scotland." $105

Blackwood Long Chanter

CH34. Blackwood chanter with mock ivory and engraved nickel fittings. Matte finish. This is a good deal for a real blackwood chanter. 22 1/4" long, made by Mid-East. With Scottish reed. $99 This is currently our only long blackwood chanter.

Child's Chanters

CH40. Child's Practice Chanter : This real chanter is designed for children whose fingers do not comfortably reach the holes on a standard chanter. Overall length is 16", and distance from center to center of the holes at each end of the row of holes is 5 1/8". Made of good hardwood; comes in an attractive package with a coloring poster and music learning wall chart. Produced by Pied Piper of Scotland. $26

CH41 (not shown). High-density plastic child's chanter. This high-quality black chanter looks much like the Kintail ones above, but does not carry a maker's name. Made in Scotland. Overall length: 16 inches. $57

A note...Practice chanters made in Pakistan are an excellent quality for the money, and the negative stories about Pakistani-made products do not really apply. (We check our products out, and if you get a defective item, we replace it, of course.) Please note that there are a number of different makers in Pakistan; not all produce items of the same quality.
