Kinnor and Nevel
Also: Mini Kinnor
These Biblical musical instruments are modern adaptations designed according to what we know about them from ancient times. Often translated as "harp" in the Biblical manuscripts, they are mentioned throughout the Psalms.
Kinnor
Also known as David's harp, this is a 10-string instrument that somewhat resembles a lyre. Its design is based on what is known about the Biblical instrument. Ten strings is a very limited playing range; it should be noted that this instrument can be used mainly for plucking chords in accompaniment to a voice or other instrument. Rosewood, nylon strings. 27" high. You can tune the strings in any key you like, although a possible ancient tuning is offered on the accompanying sheet. Includes nylon zippered carrying case, shown below, and tuning key. Weight including case and shipping box is 11 lb. $200

Mini Kinnor
This is a smaller
version of the kinnor above; because of its very small size, it is more suitable as a toy
or decoration than for actual playing. We show it at left beside a normal-sized book to
indicate its size.
You can tune the strings in any key you like, although a possible ancient tuning is
offered on the accompanying sheet.
The strings are placed only 1/4" apart, and the maker suggests that this instrument
may be more easily played with the nails.
Comes with a tuning key and black
quilted carrying case. 16 1/2" long, 1 1/3" deep
(soundbox), weighs two pounds. Rosewood, nylon strings. $59
Nevel
This is
the newest of our unusual instruments, the modern version of the nevel of the Bible.
Because of the skin-covered soundbox, this instrument is louder than the Kinnor above. The
shoulder strap is attached to the nevel in two places, so that the instrument can be
played while you stand. You can tune the strings in any key you like, although a possible
ancient tuning is offered on the accompanying sheet.
26" high, 15 nylon strings, rosewood frame, weighs about 4 1/2 lb.
Price includes nylon carrying case. $235
